I had to work, so planning on seeing it this evening... Been on pins and needles for months waiting. Does anyone in this group live near Katy??? Everything is always down south of town. I would like to become active, but a long way to travel, when I work nearly 60 hours a week.

U.S.S. Navras
The U.S.S. Navras would like to take this time to announce that as of tonight we have submitted our formal request to decommission as a chapter of STARFLEET, The International Star Trek Fan Association, Inc. We will always be thankful to STARFLEET and Region 3 for providing a home for us, and for the friendships that we have earned throughout the organization during our time there. This is a group that is filled with a lot of great people, but it has become evident over time that there is a significant difference in direction between STARFLEET International, and the U.S.S. Navras. Effective immediately, the Navras is now its own independent Star Trek fan organization, centered primarily around costuming and charity efforts. Over the course of the next couple of weeks, those visiting our Facebook pages and website will see a lot of changes, as we update to reflect the new standards that we are setting for ourselves. Again, thank you to all of the friends that we have made, and we hope to keep. We wish STARFLEET and its members the best in their endeavors, and we look forward to everything that the future has in store! LLAP!

Currently the Office of Emergency Preparedness doesn't have a liaison in Oklahoma so I am asking that chapters within the affected region, if they are able to, to contact this list and inform us if everyones okay and if there is anything we can do. Also does the Chaplin Corps have a rep in this area that I could get into contact with as I suspect there may be a little bit of piggypacking here. The Zavala serves South East Texas mostly in the Houston/Galveston Area. We meet monthly on the third Sunday of each month. We give back to the community through charity and service and promote the ideals and dream of Star Trek and Gene Rodenberry.

Yea, I think they are right, Wrath of Khan was indeed a better movie. Spoliers.. really I mean it.

By all rights, Star Trek Into Darkness should be a really good movie. The acting is superb. The core cast established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in 2009, and they've only gotten better. Unfortunately, Into Darkness is wrestling with way, way too much story for one movie.

YES! Cosmos is returning to TV!

As many of you have probably heard by now, Cosmos is coming back to television. FOX has just announced that, sometime in 2014, Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey, will hit the airwaves. This time, the series will be hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, working with original creators Ann Druyan and Steven Soter with Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy fame producing. While MacFarlane may seem like an odd fit, he is actually a personal friend of Ann Druyan, a childhood fan of Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, and an advocate of space travel. He also personally provided the funding to have 800 boxes of Sagan's notes and letters preserved in the Library of Congress. It was through MacFarlane's clout with FOX Network that Druyan was able to meet the network heads and get the series approved. The aim of the show, much like the original series, will be to introduce a general audience to the wonders of science. Tyson has stated that his intention is not to teach textbook science, which won't stick with many people after the show, but to present science in a way that has meaning and that can influence the audience's conduct in their everyday life. And, rest assured, he has confirmed that “vehicles of storytelling” in the same vein as Sagan's Spaceship of the Imagination will be used. Read more about the announcement: http://goo.gl/KvsGc

I'd like to invite all of you who are going to Comicpalooza to come to our panels, "So you want to be a Star Ship Captain" at 1300 and "Saving Our Ships" panel at 1330 on Saturday. The first one will be about STARFLEET International and our ship the USS ZAVALA and the second panel will be about the Battleship Texas and will feature several members of the Battleship Texas Foundation and we will be talking about the restoration and what is being done to save the last Dreadnought.
